Global X bolsters fixed-income capabilities with appointment of Andrew Schilling
28 October
Global X ETFs Australia has expanded its portfolio management team with the appointment of Andrew Schilling as Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, strengthening the group’s capabilities as it continues to grow its income offering.
Mr Schilling brings 14 years of fixed-income experience across Australian and global markets. He joins Global X from Antares Capital and has previously held investment roles at Aware Super and StatePlus. His experience spans active and passive portfolio management, asset allocation, portfolio construction, derivatives and risk management.
The appointment comes at an important stage in the growth of both Global X and Australia’s ETF industry. Australian ETFs attracted a record $21 billion in net inflows in the September quarter, including a record $1 billion allocated to Australian fixed-income ETFs in September alone.
Global X Head of Portfolio Management Chris Wolak welcomed Mr Schilling to the business.
“We are delighted to welcome Andrew to Global X at an important time for our portfolio management team and the broader business,” Mr Wolak said.
“As our product range and assets under management continue to grow, we are investing in the specialist expertise and portfolio management capability required to support our clients and maintain great investment outcomes,” he said.
“Andrew’s appointment is particularly significant at a time when Australian investors are allocating more of their portfolios to fixed income. This is a key growth area for Global X, and Andrew will support the management and development of our fixed-income capabilities as we continue to expand this part of our business.”
The appointment follows the recent transition of Global X Australian ETF custody and fund administration services to Citi. The transition forms part of a broader investment in its operating model and is designed to provide a scalable operational foundation for future growth and product innovation.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Schilling said the strength of the Australian ETF market and growing investor focus on income made it an exciting time to join Global X.
“ETFs are attracting record levels of investment, while income is becoming an increasingly important feature of Australian portfolios. This is creating significant opportunities to help investors access fixed-income exposures in a transparent, efficient and accessible way,” he said.
“I look forward to working with the broader Global X team to support the firm’s existing fixed-income strategies, contribute to the continued development of its income offering and help deliver high-quality investment solutions for Australian investors.”
Mr Schilling is a CFA charterholder and completed a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University.
