Top performers last week were led by global gold miners (MNRS), which rallied as investors sought safety amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. Leveraged Australian equity funds (GEAR, GMVW) also outperformed, benefiting from strength in financials and resources sector, as the local market outpaced weaker global counterparts like the US.
Tech-oriented funds (SEMI, FANG) and leveraged US equities (LNAS) were among the worst performers, as US stocks declined sharply following downgrades to economic growth forecasts and a cautious start to earnings season. The US dollar also weakened, with ETFs like YANK falling 5%, as the greenback slipped to its lowest level since early 2022.
