Thematic Spotlight: An AI Chatbot to Call Your Own
Have you ever wanted to create an AI version of yourself? In what is the latest attempt by big tech to further integrate AI into their popular public offerings, Meta has unveiled “AI Studio”, a groundbreaking platform that enables everyday users to craft, share, and explore AI characters across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.1 The offering comes in two parts. For professional users, AI Studio will let influencers and businesses create custom chatbots that can answer common questions from fans and followers. Non-professional users of Instagram will be able to create themed AI characters for their profiles, focusing on topics such as pets, sports, or food. Both features are set to roll out for all users over the next month, with popular social media creators gaining priority access to AI Studio this week.2
On the semiconductor side of the AI business, Nvidia Corp has officially released a new set of AI deployment tool called ‘NIMs’ (Nvidia Inference Micro Services) to boost adoption and help businesses streamline the integration of generative large language models.3 To simplify, NIMs are Nvidia’s take on software packages which seek to handle many logistical challenges in utilising AI. Per the company’s announcement, current customers under Nvidia’s AI Enterprise product, which costs $4,500 per GPU annually, will include these services. So far, beta versions of about 100 NIMs are available for developer use, and Nvidia will look to provide completed versions soon. Some examples of NIMs applications at work including image enhancing tools like Getty Images’ high-resolution generation and Shutterstock’s 3D image generator.4
Both Nvidia and Meta have had stellar stock performances this year built on investor bullishness toward their AI capabilities. Nvidia has thus far returned 131% YTD, while Meta is up 34% this year.5 Both companies have yet to report Q2 earnings, but analysts are optimistic that the firms will continue to outperform.6 Meta’s earnings are right around the corner – scheduled for the 31st of July, and Nvidia is due to report toward the tail-end of the earnings season, on the 28th of August.7
